ARMED gunmen escaped with an undisclosed amount of cash after an early morning robbery on Wednesday at Massy Stores Maraval.
It was reported that at least seven armed men stormed the premises around 7 am, as staff was arriving, and swiftly executed a robbery.
Reports on social media alleged the men had made off with “hundreds of thousands of dollars,” however a media release from Massy Stores Trinidad dispelled this claim.
Confirming the robbery did take place, Massy stated, “We are aware of misinformation currently being circulated regarding the incident. To clarify, a small amount of cash was taken. In line with our longstanding policy, our stores operate with minimal cash on hand to protect staff and customers.”
Massy said there were no customers in the branch at the time and no employees were harmed.
They said, “Our thoughts are with the employees who had to endure this traumatic event, and we have taken necessary steps to provide support during this trying time.”
Massy said they were fully cooperating with the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) and were unable to provide any further details at this time.
