SEVERAL homes remain covered in water following Wednesday’s torrential thunderstorms and heavy rainfall in parts of the Central region leaving some roadways impassable.
Residents continue to experience rising flood waters in St Helena, Kelly Village, El Carmen, Piarco, Warrenville and Las Lomas.
Videos on the Las Lomas\St/Helena Community Facebook group showed residents homes and yards drenched with flood waters.
The Trinidad and Tobago Metrological Service (TTMS) said there was tributary flooding on the North Bank Road and Golden Grove Road, Piarco.
Councillor for Kelly Village\Warrenville Samuel Sankar said there were rising waters in St Helena are, and parts of Kelly Village along the Caroni South Bank Road.
He said, “At present, there were teams on site, looking and assessing where the water flows come in, there are unconfirmed reports of the river banks compromised.”
Sankar was with the Drainage Central, a unit through the Ministry of Works and the Tunapuna\Piarco Regional Corporation (TPRC) where reinforcement works were being conducted on the riverbank.
He said, “We are working together to assist all our burgesses. We plan to bring some relief and have a cleanup shortly.”
Sankar said that tide and flow of the river will impact the run-off of the watercourses.
Meanwhile the Ministry of Rural Development and Local Government said assessment will continue within the Edinburgh 500 area by the Chaguanas Borough and assessments were currently being done within the Debe area.
There were also reports that Suchit Trace and Debe Trace were impassible due to flood waters and people are asked to use the SS Erin Road as an alternative route.
