REPUBLIC Bank states that its teller systems were facing a technical challenge, causing service delays at several branches on Wednesday.
The bank later announced that its systems were fully restored and that extended branch hours would be offered for non-mall locations, with weekday hours extended to 3 pm.
The bank did not indicate the cause of the outage, but confirmed that normal operations had resumed and advised customers to check branch schedules. The extension of hours for non-mall branches is intended to ease the impact on customers who rely on in-branch services.
Separately, the Ministry of People, Social Development and Family Services issued a notice on September 26 about anticipated delays in the delivery of social welfare cheques for October 2025.
The delay affects recipients of the senior citizens’ pension, disability and public assistance grants, as well as food support programs. The ministry attributed the hold-up to a technical glitch within its own systems, a claim later corroborated by the Finance Minister, who told Newsday that the problem stemmed from a malfunctioning printer.
