THE refurbished North Eastern Regional Multipurpose Sport Facility in Sangre Grande is officially reopened with new field lighting that boasts the country’s largest multisport facility.
Reopened on September 15, the Facility was positioned to serve as a hub for sport, cultural and community engagement across the northeast region of Trinidad and Tobago.
A release from the Sport Company of Trinidad and Tobago (SporTT) said an official reopening ceremony was held in partnership with the Ministry of Sports and Youth Affairs (MYSA).
The event was attended by Minister of Sport and Youth Affairs Phillip Watts, Member of Parliament for Toco/Sangre Grande, Minister in the Ministry of Public Utilities Clyde Elder, Parliamentary Secretary in the Ministry of Public Utilities Shivana Sam and executives of the Trinidad and Tobago Electricity Commission.
Addressing members of the community present at the ceremony, SporTT CEO Jason Williams said, “This is more than a venue—it’s an incubator of dreams. Here, young athletes will sharpen their skills, learn teamwork and discipline, and thrive in a safe, supportive environment. Every child who steps onto these courts is a future champion, not just for Sangre Grande, but for Trinidad and Tobago.”
The Facility, which was first opened in 2016, boasts a 1,600 square metre indoor arena featured two basketball courts, two volleyball courts, and two netball courts, supported by an exhibition hall, multipurpose and meeting rooms, medical/first aid station, dressing rooms, service kitchen, offices, and storage.
In collaboration with the Ministry of Public Utilities and T&TEC, the 8,500 square metre playing field was outfitted with new field lighting.
The Facility would fall under the management of SporTT.
