AFTER a long battle with kidney failure, singing sensation Rennie Ramnarine has died.
He passed away on Monday.
Ramnarine, who formed an essential part of the group Dil-E-Nadan with his brothers Raymond and Richard, became a household name for all chutney lovers when he joined the band in the mid-eighties. The band also does cover versions of Bollywood hit songs incorporating them with local chutney rhythms and lyrics.
His passing was announced on social media by Raymond Ramnarine.
At 5.49 am, he posted, “Dil E Nadan universe is mourning. To the family, friends and all of his dear fans who loved and cherished our brother, Rennie Ramnarine. We regret to announce that he’s no longer with us in this physical world.
“Rennie battled chronic kidney failure a couple years ago and early this morning he passed away.
“Our family would like to thank all of you for your prayers over the years and we know that our Dad will embrace his loving son in the heavens. We love you and miss you our angel in heaven, R.I.P. Rennie Ramnarine.”
The Ramnarine brothers are still mourning the loss of their father Ramnarine Tole Moonilal who died in early February this year.
The band was formed by their father and the late Usaf Khan back in 1957.
Just last month, Raymond Ramnarine posted about his brother.
He said, “He’s always got my back. Thankful to have this guy by my side as my manager but most importantly as my brother. Hard working. Determined. Focused. We’re both always educating ourselves and taking in as much knowledge as we can. Music is our life. Music is US
Social media was flooded with persons expressing condolences on the singer’s passing with many saying Trinidad and Tobago has lost another great cultural icon.
