TWO drugs to treat eye issues are being voluntarily recalled by the Ministry of Health.
They are six lots of Brimonidine Tartrate Ophthalmic Solution 0.15% and two lots of Purely Soothing, 15% MSM Eye Drops.
Both products are being recalled due to the possibility of adverse events resulting from non-sterility issues, the ministry stated in a press release on Thursday.
Brimonidine Tartrate Ophthalmic Solution is used to treat elevated intraocular pressure (IOP) in patients with open-angle glaucoma or ocular hypertension. The recall is due to the development of cracks in some of the unit’s caps of the bottles which may impact sterility and possibly lead to adverse effects.
Purely Soothing, 15% MSM eye drops are used as an anti-inflammatory aimed to assist with symptoms of ocular irritation and/or swelling. The use of contaminated eye drops may result in severe adverse reactions.
The ministry stated that while the recalled products were not registered for sale in Trinidad and Tobago, out of an abundance of caution, it advises persons who may be in possession of the recalled products to discontinue use immediately and to return the product to the place of purchase where possible.
The Ministry of Health stated that it will continue to monitor the situation and advise the population as necessary.
