A LOPINOT man was charged with a murder that occurred in 2019.
Dillon Sutherland, aka ‘Ratty’, 32, of Surrey Village, was expected to appear before an Arima Magistrate on Wednesday, charged with the murder of Antonio Richards. He was charged with the offence following advice received from acting Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Joan Honore-Paul, on Tuesday, police stated on Wednesday.
Richards, 20, of Campbell Lane, Arouca, was involved in an altercation with a group of men on December 17, 2019, during which the assailants armed themselves with bottles and bricks and hit him about the body. During the incident, Richards was fatally shot. The men then fled the scene.
Sutherland was arrested on Saturday by officers of the Gender-Based Violence Unit in the Arouca district and handed over to Homicide Bureau of Investigations, (HBI) Region 2, officers. Investigations were supervised by ASP Douglas, while Sutherland was charged by PC Jerome Barker, also of HBI Region 2.
