FORMER UNC MP for Couva North Ramona Ramdial says there are not reasons given for the rejection of a motion by Dr Fuad Khan.
In a letter to General Secretary of the UNC Peter Kanhai after the motion was rejected on Thursday, Ramdial said, “It is quite disturbing but not surprising that the proposed Motion submitted by Dr Fuad Khan and myself was not approved for Sunday’s Congress. Most disturbing was that no grounds were given for rejection of the Motion. So I ask: On what grounds was our Motion to Unite the UNC rejected?”
Ramdial who seconded the motion to have more of the former party members play an active role wanted it to be debated at the National Congress on Sunday.
She said, “Your reference to the last Internal Elections and our losses is disingenuous and downright hypocritical. The entire country knows that the UNC Internal Elections are rigged in favour of the incumbents. Regardless, how do you explain the diminishing participation (less than 10% of the membership) of UNC members in the Internal Elections and the increasing complaints of members unable to vote as well as the inability of interested persons to become UNC members? Has the current leadership explained to the membership why it has never been able to win a National Election after 2010?
“Of course we have reached out to most MPs only to be rebuked and ignored since they cannot act without the blessings from the Supreme Leader which is never forthcoming. One MP was so petrified that she returned the cases of bottled water and stationery items I donated to her office to assist with the Chaguanas East Local by-elections of 2020. ”
