THE Minister of Agriculture, Lands and Fisheries Clarence Rambharat will contest the Chaguanas East seat for the PNM in the upcoming general election due next year.

Rambharat was the lone nominee for that seat having been given the nod by all party groups in the constituency. He was screened on Thursday at the PNM’s regional office in Chaguanas. The current Chaguanas East MP is former tertiary education minister Fazal Karim.

In the 2015 general election, Rambharat lost the Mayaro seat to the Rushton Paray of the UNC.

Last Wednesday PNM’s senator and assistant general secretary Daniel Dookie was successfully screened to contest the Pointe-a-Pierre seat in the upcoming general elections.

Also screened on Thursday were nominees for Chaguanas Borough Corporation in anticipation of upcoming local government elections.

On Monday PNM nominees for the electoral districts for the Arima Borough Corporation and the Sangre Grande Regional Corporation will make their case for nomination at the Lower Malabar Community Centre.
