PRISONER Rajaee Ali was formally charged on Thursday for the offence of Possession of Prohibited Articles.
Ali, charged for the murder of attorney Dana Seetahal, was reportedly in breach of Section 8:1f of the Prison Service Act Chapter 13:01 as amended by Act 25 of 2019, the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) stated on Thursday.
The charge stems from an incident that occurred on Wednesday at the Golden Grove Prison, where he was found in possession of one Samsung cellular device, one unbranded SIM card, and one cellular device charger, items considered prohibited without the express authorisation of the Commissioner of Prisons.
Between 11 am and 12.30 pm, officers of the Special Investigations Unit (SIU), charged Ali who is currently detained at another facility.
The investigation was sanctioned by Commissioner of Police Allister Guevarro, under the leadership of DCP Suzette Martin and supervised by Snr Supt Edwards, Supt Morales and ASP Lynch along with senior officers of the SIU.
The TTPS stated it remained committed to maintaining the integrity of correctional facilities and ensuring accountability for breaches of prison security protocols.
