THE Public Procurement Act will be fully proclaimed next Wednesday.
This according to a release from the Office of the Attorney General on Thursday.
The release stated, “Senator the Honourable Reginald T. A. Armour, SC, Attorney General and Minister of Legal Affairs advises that at the meeting of the Cabinet held today April 20, 2023, Cabinet approved the full proclamation of all remaining sections of the Public Procurement And Disposal Of Public Property Act, No. 1 of 2015, which full proclamation will take effect from Wednesday, April 26, 2023.”
The act was sent to the President in January 2015 by the People’s Partnership Government and not proclaimed at that point.
The People’s National Movement (PNM) government made three amendments to the act with the latest one in 2020.
While the law will be proclaimed, the Office of Procurement Regulator is without a chairman since Moonilal Lalchan’s term ended on January 11.
Another plus for the UNC Governance model. Continuous Improvement supplementing the Integrity in public life act….Equal opportunty act.. freedom of information act all of which were put on our law books to protect pilferge of the public purse. Conversely the PNM has always amended the Parent acts to protect wrong doers who are affiliated with them
