THE illuminating insight of Divali lies not only in the flickering flames of the deyas but also in the principles of integrity and righteousness that form the religious foundation of the celebration.

The triumphant return of Lord Rama and his devoted wife Sita, after overcoming numerous trials, offers powerful lessons about righteous living and the ultimate victory of good over evil.

These lessons can guide the Equal Opportunity Tribunal (EOT) in promoting equal opportunity, challenging discrimination, and upholding the rights of all individuals.

Justice Donna Prowell-Raphael, head of the tribunal, stressed the significance of Divali, noting that all festivities add a deeper layer of spiritual meaning, embodying its true spirit as a festival of light, spirituality, and the triumph of light over darkness.

In her 2024 Divali message, she highlighted that Mother Lakshmi, the revered divine partner of Lord Vishnu, worshipped during Divali as the embodiment of prosperity and good fortune, is a powerful feminine deity. She epitomizes the essential role of women in creating balance and equality in society.

“Mother Lakshmi’s generosity extends far beyond material wealth. She bestows upon her devotees the gifts of wisdom, compassion, and the unwavering pursuit of fairness—the very principles that the Tribunal strives to uphold,” Prowell-Raphael stated.

She added, “Divali is a poignant reminder that even in the darkest times, the power of knowledge and the light of integrity will always prevail. This is the promise of the Festival of Lights and serves as unwavering inspiration as we continue to work tirelessly to fulfill the Tribunal’s mandate.”

May the blessings of Lord Rama and Mother Lakshmi be upon us as we continue our shared mission of equal opportunity for all.”
