A prison officer was killed in Valencia on Friday.
Police reports are that Trevor Serette, 48, of La Seiva Road, Sangre Grande was shot and killed around 12.10 pm.
Serette, was at the Eastern Main Road, Valencia approximately 100 metres east of the roundabout when a white AD wagon pulled up at the front of the market shed where he was sitting on a chair with his 64-year-old uncle.
The front-seat passenger of the vehicle, described as being dressed in dark coloured clothing black hoodie, armed with a big gun came out of the vehicle and pointed the firearm in the direction of Serette who attempted to run off and both men fell onto the ground.
Another man reported that he heard several loud explosions and saw Serette lying motionless on the ground. The man with the gun escaped in the vehicle which sped off in an easterly direction along the Valencia stretch.
A report was made to the Valencia Police and a party of Police officers Sgt León, PC Baptiste, PC Pope and PC Benoit responded and secured the crime scene.
Also visiting the scene were ACP Deosaran, Snr Supt Khan, Supt Subero GEB, Prision officials DCP Bruce, ACP Prince, ACP Alexander, acting Supt Serette, acting Supt King.
A team of detectives of the homicide office Region 2 Arouca under the supervision of acting ASP Douglas, Insp Sylvester and CSI WPC Liverpool and WPC Cadette of Seru processed the scene.
A post-mortem is expected to be conducted on Monday.
A comprehensive search for the suspect is ongoing by members of the Trinidad and Tobago Air Support led by acting Indp Rampallard, Sort, Prison Response Team, GEB.
