CHILDREN in Point Fortin were awarded prizes for an art competition  held to lift the borough’s spirits emphasising on the need to have positivity in the pandemic.

The prize-giving ceremony for the Mural Wall Beautification Art competition was held virtually on Tuesday. The event was organised by the Local Area Planning and Development Committee (LAPD) headed by Point Fortin Mayor Saleema Thomas.

Winners were selected based on age group categories, where students and local artists from age seven upwards were given the opportunity to express themselves through artistic paintings that would reflect the competition’s theme “Positive Vibes, Positive Vision.”

Thomas in her feature address said, “We all need your positive vibes as a reminder of where we have come from and our innate potential.

“When this project is completed, it will be a reminder to the people of Point Fortin and the nation, that we pooled the natural talent that flows within our boundaries, to uplift the soul of our nation.

“Your response is confirmation that we are undaunted by challenges. The successful execution of this project will undoubtedly create a template for more like it within the Borough and I daresay, a template for the nation.”

In a press release the Point Fortin Borough Corporation stated that the committee undertook the project with an aim to enhance the aesthetics of key areas throughout the borough. The committee felt that the competition was an ideal way to promote passion, positivity and productivity amongst the Point Fortin community and Southwest peninsula as a whole.

Thomas added that all who completed their art work will have achieved something unique which allowed them to be more appreciative of themselves and the community of Point Fortin.
