Police Kill Penal Man

POLICE have killed an 18-year-old Penal man after he pointed a gun at an officer.

According to a release from the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS), Travis Pegus, 18, of Lowkie Trace, Penal, was pronounced dead on arrival at the health facility.

An 18-year-old was killed and a firearm was recovered following the shooting on Tuesday.

Police said that around 9.45pm on Tuesday, officers of Penal Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and South Western Task Force, were on duty, when they received information that individuals were in possession of illegal firearms and ammunition at a house at Rock Road, Penal.

Officers went to the location and conducted a search at the house.

They saw a man seated on a bed holding a firearm. PC Soogrim identified himself as a police officer and instructed the man to drop the gun.

The man continued to raise and point the gun in the direction of Soogrim. On seeing the impending threat to his life, the officer discharged one round from his TTPS issued firearm, the TTPS release stated.

The officers took the injured Pegus to the Siparia Health District Facility where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Police took possession of a firearm which was found at the scene.
