ONE man was killed during a police-shooting in Central on Friday afternoon.
He was identified a Willis Fredrick, of Southern Main Road Mc Bean, Couva, was taken to the Couva Health Facility, where he sought medical attention from Dr Babwasingh, but subsequently was pronounced dead.
The suspect’s body was then taken to San Fernando General Hospital awaiting Covid test pending post mortem.
Police reports indicated that on Friday, officers of the Central Division Task Force and Central Division Investigation Unit in collaboration with other officers responded to a robbery report around 1.45pm in Railway Road, California, which involved seven unknown male suspects.
Officers searched a vast area of land, overgrown with bushes in the vicinity of Railway Road.
They saw a man of African descent, clad in a blue jean and a dark jersey heading out of the same bushes with an object resembling a firearm.
Police stated that the suspect pointed the gun in their direction, and heard a loud explosion. Fearful for their lives, officers returned fire at the suspect who fell to the ground bleeding.
Acting ASP Raghoo, Sgt Persad, and acting Sgt John visited crime scene. PC Ali and Durham of the CSI processed the area and discovered one revolver and three .38 special rounds of ammunitions.
There were now 21 fatal police involved shootings for the year.
