Police Hold ‘PH’ Taxi Driver with Pistol, Ammo

A FIREARM, a magazine and a quantity of ammunition have been seized from a PH taxi driver in Fyzabad.

Police reported, that around  11.10 am on Saturday, South-Western Division Task Force (SWDTF) officers were on an exercise along Mulchan Trace, Fyzabad, when they observed a male suspect holding a black pouch acting suspiciously.

Upon seeing the officers, the suspect allegedly began running. Police officers gave chase and subsequently detained the man in a nearby bushy area. 

The man was searched and police allegedly found and seized one black and silver Sig Sauer pistol fitted with a magazine containing 10 rounds of 9mm ammunition. He was immediately arrested and taken to the Fyzabad Police Station.

The firearm and ammunition are currently being processed by crime scene experts. PC Narine is continuing enquiries.

Teenager arrested – gun and ammunition found in bedroom 

In a separate incident, police arrested a 17-year-old teenager who was held also on Saturday with an AR-15 rifle and a quantity of ammunition by gang intelligence detectives in Sangre Grande.

He was arrested during an anti-gang operation executed by Eastern Divisional Gang and Intelligence Unit (EDGIU) police officers following a surveillance exercise into illegal firearms and ammunition in the Sangre Grande district. 

At around 6.30 pm on EDGIU officers proceeded to a house located in the North Eastern Settlement, Sangre Grande, where they executed a search warrant. 

During the raid, the EDGIU police officers allegedly found one black AR-15 equipped with one magazine, 21 rounds of 5.56 ammunition, 50 rounds of 9mm ammunition and one drum magazine containing a quantity of 9mm  mmunition in the accused bedroom. 

He was subsequently arrested and taken into police custody. The exercise was also supported by the Eastern Division Task Force. 

PC Dabreo is continuing investigations, a release from the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) stated on Sunday.
