COMMISSIONER of Police Gary Griffith says police officers also help in the fight against Covid-19.
He made the statement in a release on Thursday to clarify that two officers were part of the Covid-19 task force and not fake police officers.
The statement came after a picture which circulated on social media branded police officers as imposters.
Griffith said that the task force was established in 2020 to assist the Ministry of Health to ensure that quarantined persons remained at home among other Public Health Ordinance enforcement provisions.
He noted that the officer who said that there was no Covid-19 task force in the country either misled the citizens or was misquoted.
The CoP said all Covid task force activities were generally coordinated by the Assistant Chief of Police Wendell Williams in collaboration with county medical officers of health and Covid positive patients.
If members of the public are unsure as to the legitimacy of these officers, they are asked to request the officer’s ID and badge which they are obligated to produce.
The CoP said that all visits from officers are usually non-intrusive by words or actions as they do not board the premises and communicate at a safe distance for information which is simple and reasonable with no risk to the citizen.
