BE AWARE.

This was the message sent to criminals by Acting Commissioner Mc Donald Jacob on Thursday.

Jacob was speaking after opening a new Operations Command Centre in Barataria at the Barataria Police Station.

He said with the new centre, the North Eastern Division now has the required tools to ensure crime and criminality was kept to a minimum as the centre will assist with monitoring CCTV footage and relaying information to patrol officers in a more quick and efficient manner.

Jacob said, “A few days ago from a home invasion, with that combination like how we have the operational centre, they were able to arrest four of the offenders and recover two firearms.”

The Acting CoP also said the centre was completed at no added cost to taxpayers by using screens, computers and other items from other areas where they were not being used.

Minister of National Security Fitzgerald Hinds said every dollar spent on the improvement of the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) was “well spent.”

He said, “Every cent expended on the activity and the human resources that you see in that room and for those body cams, and for those vehicles that we gave over to the police from VMCOTT today are dollars and cents well spent.”

Also on Thursday, Minister of Works and Transport Rohan Sinanan, handed over 31 retrofitted vehicles to the TTPS.

As a statutory agency under the purview of the Ministry of Works and Transport, the Vehicle Management Corporation of Trinidad and Tobago (VMCOTT) entered into a contractual arrangement with the TTPS to supply 80 retrofitted vehicles to the TTPS.
