OBEY the curfew hours, get vaccinated and adhere to all Covid-19 health and safety protocols.
This is the message the People’s National Movement (PNM) National Youth League wants to tell youths and citizens.
In a press release on Monday, the league’s chairman Dr Jeremy Inniss reminded that there was still an ongoing fight against a global pandemic, one that has infected over 212 million globally and caused the loss of 4.43 million.
Dr Inniss said, “The nocturnal curfew reduces the opportunities for virus to infect persons by decreasing crowding and unabated viral spread during night-time social gatherings and interactions. It also reduces the risk of increased asymptomatic carriers and resultant spread of unwanted variants to our vulnerable populations. These include the elderly, citizens with co-morbidities and the immunocompromised, and as such reduces overall mortality and morbidity.”
He said, “Unfortunately, we have seen in our society the affinity for some to breach regulations and selfishly reign freely in open-container curfew parties and other social gatherings, involving at times dozens of people. The curfew reduces the congregation of people when it is not necessary to have such uncapped exposure between 9pm to 5am.
“Moreover, it is expected that with the continuation of the curfew measures, the untoward outcome of a breakout of freedom partying of those numb to the warnings of a deadly virus, for them and their loved ones, is significantly thwarted.”
He said on the basis of comradery, love for one another, and a sense of national responsibility that the league was encouraging to adhere to the life-saving protocols.
The league is also encouraging parents and guardians vaccinate their children 12-18 years now that the Pfizer vaccine was available for that age group.
