THE People’s National Movement (PNM) Autly Granthume is now officially the duly elected local government councillor for Lengua/Indian Walk.
Granthume fought a fight backed by Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley to secure the district for the PNM and will be the only PNM local government councillor in the Princes Town Regional Corporation.
While the United National Congress (UNC) was celebrating down at Quinam/Morne Diablo with Sarah Sookdeo who secured the seat for the party, UNC supporters at Lengua/Indian Walk were not as joyous.
Results began trickling slowly for the area and by 9 pm, the results showed a landslide victory for the PNM candidate in the bye-election that previously resulted in a tie with UNC candidate Nicole Gopaul.
By 9.30, Granthume had already received more than 700 votes over his main opponent. Independent candidate Peterson Morales also contested the election.
Celebrating with Granthume at his campaign office in Petit Cafe was Minister of Rural Development and Local Government Faris Al-Rawi and other supporters.
They danced and sang with Granthume fondly known as “Pastor.”
Granthume told AZP News, “I feel great, I feel proud. It is really an honour to be of service like this. I will not only be serving Lengua/Indian Walk but also the environs. Thanks be to God.
