AFTER a massive loss to the United National Congress (UNC) in the general election, the People’s National Movement (PNM) members are ready to go to the polls again for its internal election on Sunday.
All PNM members age 18 and over are eligible to vote. Voters must walk with a government-issued photo ID to vote.
Polling stations are set up in each of the 41 constituencies and 16 positions are being vied for.
The votes will be held in line with the PNM constitution, one man one vote.

While the polls are opened on Sunday, it would be until a week later on June 29 during the PNM’s Special Convention that the winners would be announced.
Incumbent public relations officer Faris Al-Rawi had previously explained  the difference at a press conference.
“The taking of the ballot for the election of all of the officers would be executed at each of the 41 constituencies on Sunday June 22, 2025. So to explain that, we do the ballot the weekend before the convention. The results of the ballot is then taken to the convention and at the convention, the election is perfected.”
In a final woo to voters, Opposition Leader Pennelope Beckles and the sole contestant for political leader posted a message on social media on Saturday.
She simply stated, “Let’s Bring Back The Love. The Hon Pennelope Beckles, MP is pleased to present a team focused on one vision. Ready to Serve. Committed to People. Ready to Rebuild our Party. June 22 – PNM Internal Elections 2025. “Bringing back the Love” — and the fire we need.”

Beckles campaign was backed by several key PNM personnel, former government ministers some of whom are now senators.
It was not without its own set of controversy with the latest being from vice-chairman and chairman of the Women’s League Camille Robinson-Regis.
Robinson-Regis called on the PNM supporters to not bash former political leader and prime minister Dr Keith Rowley for mistakes made stating he was still being blame primarily for the April 28 defeat having first stepped down as prime minister before that and then as political leader after the defeat.

PNM’s then chairman Stuart Young and former deputy political leader Rohan Sinanan also resigned.
Robinson-Regis, declined to offer herself in this internal election.
While the campaign was on the ground with meetings for Beckles “One PNM” party, much of it took place on social media with Beckles reposting reels from previous meetings in the last week.
