FOUR executive officers have been appointed to the People’s National Movement (PNM) General Council.
According to a release on Saturday, the first meeting of the General Council since the June 22 Internal Election took place at Balisier House, Port of Spain.
The release said four executive officers were appointed to the general council. The elected officers were:
- International Liaison Officer – Laurel Lezama
- Deputy Political Leader, Legislative – Colm Imbert
- Deputy Political Leader, Party and Election Matters – Jennifer Baptiste-Primus
- Deputy Political Leader, Policy – Sanjiv Boodhu.
Political leader Penelope Beckles gave her inaugural address at the meeting.
The release said Beckles “outlined strategies for moving forward, including the hosting of regular public meetings, walkabouts and press conferences. The Leader signalled the intention of the leadership to appoint a steering committee to lead the party’s 70th anniversary celebrations, which will be year-long, commencing January 2026.”
She was also congratulated for receiving a proclamation from New York State Senator Seila Bynoe, and a citation from New York Public Advocate Jumaane Williams, during her recent visit to New York.
The party said Beckles “encouraged all to embrace and include young people and noted that there was room for all in the PNM.”
The release stated, “With the PNM’s full executive now in place, the party is poised to chart a clear and targeted course for reengineering, and to return to government, as is already desperately needed in Trinidad and Tobago.”
