TOTALLY out of line.
This was the sentiment of Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar on Tuesday when asked about comments made by Minister in the Ministry of Housing Phillip Edward Alexander regarding regional tensions between Venezuela and the United States.
During a Facebook live last week, Alexander cautioned Venezuela that India would drop “a nuke” on them should Venezuela threaten T&T.
This forced a response from Venezuelan Vice President Delcy Rodriguez, who said the only nuclear bomb dropped was the one on T&T’s government.
Alexander would continue to provoke the Venezuelan VP, saying he was talking figuratively and that Delcy “was not as smart” as he had given her credit for.

Although Alexander removed the posts, they continue to circulate in social media groups, with many arguing that he did not have the authority to speak on such matters.
Speaking to the media at the Diplomatic Centre, after a small ceremony was held to honour the TKR and World Athletic Championships medallists Keshorn Walcott and Jereem Richards, Persad-Bissessar was questioned on Alexander’s comments.

Persad-Bissessar said, “He was totally out of line. I do not share his views. I have since told him he needs to stay in his zone. Let’s hope that he complies.”

“The cabinet, my government, we do share the views expressed by that honourable Minister,” she said.
In response to Persad-Bissessar’s statement, Alexander responded respectfully on his Facebook page.
He stated, “Big men take their missteps as learning opportunities. Ego is for kids. I support Kamla Persad-Bissessar 100%”
