Phishing Increases in St Lucia

CASTRIES, St Lucia – The Bank of Saint Lucia (BOSL) on Thursday warned customers of an increase in a phishing attempts and social media investment scams.

In an email to to its customers, the BOSL said phishing is “a common type of cyber-attack that targets individuals through email, text messages, phone calls, and other forms of communication.”

It said the aim is to trick the recipient into falling for the attacker’s desired action, such as revealing financial information, system login credentials, or other sensitive information.

BOSL said that recently, it became aware of scammers purporting to be reputable investment companies on social media platforms with these fraudulent actors having illegally used the bank’s  logo and name on their invoices and company profiles.

“Please note that Bank of Saint Lucia is in no way associated with these types of fraudulent activities,”  the BOSL said, outlining several protective tips, including verifying the sender by checking the email address.

“If you gave sensitive information, don’t panic, contact your Bank immediately and report all suspicious activity,” BOSL said, notng that the lnks used by the scammers start with https:// and not http://.

In addition, the BOSL said all its emails contain @bankofsaintlucia.com. (CMC)
