THE Progressive Empowerment Party (PEP) that is contesting the Debe bye-election will not be issuing any statements to mainstream media on the outcome of the election on Monday.
The party led by Phillip Alexander feels that it has been treated unfairly and will instead be posting its information via social media platforms.
In a statement on Monday Alexander said, “As our releases are ignored and our leadership not invited to speak on national issues, we wonder what interest they could possibly have in what we do today…Our campaign has been on social media and on the ground and we will maintain our updates there. Our releases are put out on social media and titled public releases as opposed to media releases for this same reason.”
Alexander named Newsday and AZP News were exceptions and thanked them for their coverage.
He added, “This is not meant to be spiteful nor reactive, and until those in media learn the reason and purpose for and of the fourth estate, we will continue to inhabit this vast and quiet space they set out to carve for us.”
Lorenzo Sammy is the PEP’s candidate vying for the post of local government councillor for Debe South.
