OPPOSITION Leader and Member of Parliament for Arima Pennelope Beckles says she is ready and proud to lead the People’s National Movement (PNM).
On Monday, she intended to file her nomination papers at Balisier House in Port of Spain as the party gets ready to hold its internal election later this month.
She posted on her Facebook page stating she stands ready to rebuild the party that lost terribly to the United National Congress (UNC) in the April 28 general election.

“I have been here before, submitting my nomination for leadership, but unlike 2014, this call to lead isn’t just a quiet plea; it is the vibrations of our people, the cries of those seeking a listening ear, and I feel it in every fibre of my being during this critical moment for our party.”
She said as a proud member of the party since 1991, she has walked the path before, with both former leaders and prime ministers Patrick Manning and Dr Keith  Rowley.

“Today, with the power of social media, this journey is not only different but far more engaging and vital,” Beckles stated.
She added, “Today, I will file my nomination as a proud member of this great party for the position of political leader. I ask you to join me on this journey. The road ahead will be long, the task, difficult, but together, what we can achieve is greater.”
Beckles was unanimously chosen as the PNM’s Opposition Leader last month.
Nomination closes at 5 pm.
