A SHOOTING incident in Mayaro has resulted in the death of a 27-year-old man from Penal.
Vijay Singh, of Oliver Drive, Lachoos Road, Penal was shot while at his friend’s home at Ortoire Village, Point Radix Road Mayaro.
His friend David Francois is listed in stable condition.
Police reports are that around 9.45pm on Sunday, Francois was at his home in company with Singh when three male persons, two known to Francois, stormed into his house through an open door space.
The two persons known to Francois both armed with handguns began shooting in the direction of the two men and then ran out the house. Francois sustained injuries about his body and managed to escape through a door space to the southern side of the house and entered his vehicle. He drove himself to the Mayaro District Hospital where he was medically examined.
As a result, the Mayaro Police were contacted and a party of officers including WPC Francis responded at the Mayaro Hospital where Francois was briefly interviewed and an initial statement recorded from him. He was then transferred to the Sangre Grande Hospital for further treatment.
Based on further information, another party of officers including Inspector Ramkissoon, Ag Sgt Mohammed, Ag Cpl Neaves, PC Nancoo CSI and officers of the Mayaro based Taskforce and ERP, proceeded to Francois’ residence. Singh’s body was found on a bedroom floor.
The body had what appeared to be wounds to the head and lower body. His driving permit was found nearby.
The body was removed to the Sangre Grande Hospital Storage pending a post-mortem examination at the Forensic Science Centre.
Inquiries are continuing by PC Rambhajan of the Region 3 Homicide Rio Claro base.
