MORE support is being garnered for the United Patriots (UP) slate as the United National Congress (UNC) internal elections draw near.

Member of Parliament for Naparima Rodney Charles said on Thursday, people are recognising the UP slate as the better and brighter slate to lead the UNC back into government.

He said, “The United Patriots slate is infinitely better than the other side.”

During a political meeting held at the Macaulay Community Centre, Charles read from an article published in the Sunshine Newspaper which endorsed the UP slate being led by Member of Parliament for Mayaro Rushton Paray.

The Sunshine Newspaper is owned by former minister under the People’s Partnership Jack Warner.

The writer, “The Patriot” using “the ship is sinking” expression wrote, “There is a glimmer of hope because the passengers on the ship seem to have come to their senses  and hopefully at their internal election, elect the best team.”

Charles read, “When one objectively assesses the two major teams, one will notice a chalk and cheese situation. The Paray team is by far superior intellectually than the KPB (Kamla Persad-Bissessar) Star team.”

He said people are beginning to notice class and integrity on one side and he opted not to say anything about “the other side.”

“It was refreshing to note that at the launch of the Paray team, the speakers focused on the problems and how they could be solved. No one spoke ill of members of the KPB Star team, which is unlike the rants and raves of some members of the KPB team,” Charles continued reading.

Charles at the beginning of his presentation walked with the chair he was sitting on onto the podium.

He told supporters, “I just want to let you know I have to walk with my seat because tomorrow I am told that I will have no seat.”

Moving the chair around the podium, Charles emphasised that it did not matter where he sat.

As the UNC Opposition goes into Parliament on Friday for the Mid Year Budget Review, all eyes will be on Charles to see if he will maintain his seat next to Opposition Leader Kamla Persad-Bissessar or if he will be moved.
