OVERNIGHT rains have caused flooding in several part of Trinidad.
The Trinidad and Tobago Meteorological Service (TTMS) has since issued a Riverine Flood Alert.
Several areas of Sangre Grande were affected by the intermittent rainfall. Affected areas included Coalmine, Barker Trace, Coalmine, Reid Lane, Toco Road, Fishing Pond, Oropouche and the Eastern Main Road, according to Sangre Grande Community Facebook.
There were similar occurrences along Reid Lane off the Toco Road.
The Aranguez River continues to rise with waters up to more than six- feet following the in-climate weather.
Flash flooding have been reported in Petit Valley area and Grapefruit Crescent in Maraval.
In the southside, some roadways in Penal and Princes Town are currently under water. Citizens are advised that there may be heavy traffic in these affected areas.
A yellow level alert warning is also in effect from today (Thursday July 29) at 8.25 am to Friday (July 30) at 12 midnight.
TTMS stated, “While major rivers are contained at this time, smaller water courses/rivers are currently at elevated levels.
“These levels are expected to gradually rise further as the day progresses. Intermittent rainfall activity of varying intensities is forecast to continue today with some improvement by this evening. Localised flooding and ponding can be exacerbated in heavy or prolonged downpours.”
Members of the public are asked to monitor weather conditions, water levels from official sources via www.odpm.gov.tt.
In addition, they should avoid driving or wading through floodwaters, plan safety measures and do not take unnecessary risks.
