OPERATION Secure De Vibes came into full effect on Friday morning, as the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) stood ready to ensure a safe Carnival for all.

Speaking at a press conference on Friday in the VIP Room of the Grandstand, Queen’s Park Savannah, Port of Spain, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Suzette Martin said Operation Secure De Vibes commenced on Friday morning at the 4 am reenactment of the Cambolay Riots.

Regarding the Fantastic Friday celebrations at the Queen’s Park Savannah, Martin said, “This evening, we anticipate a substantial turnout at the Queen’s Park Savannah. Our officers, supported by coordinated command structures and inter-agency collaboration, are in position to ensure that all attendees can participate in a safe and secure environment. The Service engages in extensive planning and proactive deployment strategies, and we look forward to a safe and incident-free continuation of the Fantastic Friday celebration.”

Martin said spectators and mas players on Monday and Tuesday can expect a highly visible police presence, and encouraged the use of the TTPS Carnival 2026 QR code.

She said, “You will see increased high-visibility patrols in Port of Spain and entertainment corridors; a strong police presence at the Queen’s Park Savannah; zero tolerance for firearms and violent behaviour; continued traffic and crowd management; sustained joint inter-agency coordination; proactive policing to deter criminal activity; intelligence-led deployments; and tactical teams. We urge patrons to continue celebrating responsibly.”

“We have also activated our Carnival 2026 QR code. When you scan the QR code displayed on screens at event venues or on official TTPS platforms, you can access live road-closure and traffic updates, view designated safe zones and police posts, and access emergency contact information. You can also get official Carnival advisories. This QR code places safety information directly in your hands. We encourage all patrons to scan it and stay informed,” she said.

Also speaking at the press conference was Minister of Homeland Security Roger Alexander, who reminded the public that members of the TTPS and the Defence Force on duty were not there to ruin a good time, but to keep everyone safe.

Alexander said, “They are not here to stifle the rivalry. They must be seen as a protective mechanism designed to provide that protection for all.”

The Minister called on the public to remain vigilant with their money, stating that there had been reports of counterfeit currency being used.

Alexander said, “We also want people to pay attention to their money, as we are seeing some counterfeit currency in circulation. So those who are purchasing items and those who are receiving change, we ask you to pay attention, examine it more closely, and if you’re in doubt, do not accept it.”
