SEVEN persons have been arrested as the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service’s (TTPS) Special Victims Department (SVD) carries out “Operation Beacon” across various police divisions.

In a press release issued on Wednesday, the TTPS stated that the SVD conducted the coordinated anti-crime exercise across Trinidad and Tobago, leading to the arrest of seven individuals and the clearing of 13 reports.

In the Central Division, the TTPS reported that a 30-year-old male from Riverside Drive, Brasso, was arrested and charged with two counts of Sexual Touching. He appeared before the Couva Master’s Court on February 11 and was granted $180,000 bail. Conditions of his release include residing at his current address, reporting to the Brasso Police Station, and having no contact with the victim. His matter was adjourned to October 13.

In the South Western Division, a 42-year-old woman from Santa Flora was charged via summons with Malicious Damage after a confrontation. She allegedly damaged a silver Toyota Voxy, with the damage to the victim’s vehicle estimated at over $3,050.

Two persons were arrested for separate matters in the North Central Division. In the first matter, a man was arrested and charged with the Sexual Penetration of a female. He appeared before the Arima High Court, where bail was denied.

In the second matter, a man was charged with one count of Common Assault and one count of Assault by Beating. The TTPS reported that on February 26, the accused was involved in an escalated verbal dispute with a female victim. He allegedly dealt the victim several blows to the face and stomach before arming himself with a knife and threatening to kill her. He was charged on March 1 and was scheduled to appear before the Arima Master’s Court.

In the Eastern Division, one person was arrested and charged with two counts of Sexual Penetration in connection to the sexual assault of a male relative on April 4 and 5. The accused appeared before the Sangre Grande Master’s Court and was granted bail in the sum of $100,000 with a surety and strict conditions.

Over in the Tobago Division, the TTPS reported two arrests for separate matters. In Charlotteville, a 52-year-old man was arrested and charged with three counts of Cruelty to a Child after allegedly assaulting his two children. Meanwhile, in Buccoo, a man was accused of Sexual Penetration after allegedly taking a woman to an apartment in Sou Sou Lands and having sexual intercourse with her against her will on January 16. Investigations into this matter are ongoing.

“The exercise was conducted without incident and forms part of the Department’s ongoing efforts to prevent, deter, and detect crimes perpetrated against children and other vulnerable persons,” the TTPS stated.
