NURSES have answered the call to fight Covid-19.
This was according to the General Manager Nursing Services at the North West Regional Health Authority (NCRHA) Dr Dianne Hinneh at the Ministry of Health’s Virtual Media Conference on Monday.
She said, “We’ve accepted the fact that we were in a war and we were ready to fight.”
Dr Hinneh said that one of the strategies employed in combating the virus was the training to the point of exhaustion in order to sharpen their skills and competencies for managing Covid-19 patients.
She said that nurses advocate for the patients and bring them connectivity to the rest of the world as they become the surrogate family of the afflicted at Covid-19 facilities.
Dr Hinneh said the nurses also take on the psychological burden of the patients affected with Covid-19 while shouldering their own burdens during the pandemic.
Speaking of an intubated young man who was affected by Covid-19 and admitted to one of the facilities, she said that he bared a look of hopelessness on his face while gasping for air.
This is a daily occurrence for nurses according to her.
She urged citizens to take advantage of the various vaccines so that they may celebrate Independence Day.
Dr Hinneh said vaccination was the best protection for any healthcare worker and for protection for members of the public from each other.
