In a media release on Saturday, the party acknowledged the official termination of the agreement but stated that it remains committed to national development and economic diversification.
The party also noted that while some may be celebrating the deal’s collapse for political reasons, many citizens were understandably disappointed by the loss of what could have been a significant opportunity for economic growth.
It stated, “We express disappointment, but not surprise, that some seem to have placed politics above patriotism and what is best for the country.”
According to the NTA, the collapse of the deal underscores the need to move away from dependence on a single venture or sector.
The party outlined a series of key strategies aimed at national transformation. These include:
• Rapid emphasis and development of the creative and narrative exports and sectors.
• Implementation of financial and energy market stabilisers, inclusive of structural rewiring and development of knowledge and data controls.
• Encourage the investment of stagnant reserves through unique public/private partnership
• Sustainable Growth
The NTA said its focus remains on long-term, sustainable progress. Through investment in renewable energy and green technologies, they aim to build an economy that protects the environment while meeting the needs of generations to come.
“Every Trinidadian and Tobagonian deserves a seat at the table,” the release stated.
It also pledged to support small and medium enterprises and promote inclusive policies that uplift underrepresented communities.
The NTA added that transparency will remain a key part of its governance model.
“The NTA will maintain open lines of communication with all stakeholders, ensuring that our decisions are informed by the voices of the people and built on accountability and integrity.”
The party concluded by stating that despite the deal’s collapse, it sees the moment as an opportunity to refocus and drive forward with bold, new strategies.
“The end of the Dragon Gas deal might feel like a setback, it is also a call to reinvent and reenergise our approach to national transformation.”
The NTA thanked the public for its continued support and said it will provide updates as new strategies aimed at national prosperity are implemented.
