AFFECTED by too much water due to flooding, the Penal/Debe region is now without clean, pipe-borne water.
Chairman of the Penal/Debe Regional Corporation Dr Allen Sammy, in a press release on Wednesday, claimed that for weeks, some 10,000 residents affected by flood waters had no clean water to do the cleaning and sanitisation.
He is calling on Public Utilities Minister Marvin Gonzales to install new sources of water for the region.
According to Dr Sammy, “Ongoing floods in three separate incidents in July and August alone have been matched by dry Water and Sewerage Authority (WASA) mains.”
He said for Penal Rock Road and side traces, residents have not received water for six weeks despite paying their WASA bills on time.
The Navet Dam services residents along Penal Rock Road, Lengua and Rochard Douglas Road.
For the past three weeks, Dr Sammy said Central and west Debe were also not spared from lack of water.
He is proposing to the minister to have retention ponds, wells and a dam at Haggard Trace.
Gonzales told AZP News he will await a report on the matter from WASA.
