SEVERAL parts of Trinidad and Tobago are without electricity after a problem with one of the generating plants on Saturday.
In releases on Saturday morning, the Trinidad and Tobago Electricity Commission (T&TEC) stated around 9 am it experienced a fault in its system stemming from an apparent problem at one of the generating plants.
It stated, “As a result, there was automatic shedding of load across Trinidad and several areas are currently without an electricity supply, including the list following. Tobago is unaffected.
“The Commission is speaking with the power producer to determine the nature of the issue and the time for restoration.”
Some of the affected areas included:
- San Francique;
- Beetham;
- Santa Cruz;
- Penco Lands;
- Cumuto;
- St Joseph;
- Arima;
- Toco;
- Tacarigua;
- Diego Martin;
- West Moorings;
- San Raphael; and
- Penal
In another release, it stated that at 10.20 am restoration of the electricity supply commenced in some parts of east and central and approximately 60% of the affected customers are back on.
It anticipated that all customers should have been back on supply by 11.30 am
T&TEC stated that due to extremely high call volumes, response time at call centres will be slow.
