T20 sensation Nicholas Pooran has taken a break from cricket to marry his sweetheart Alyssa Miguel.
The couple, together for the past seven years, pledged for better or for worse at Pooran’s home in Chaguanas on Saturday.
Last year, Pooran, 25, proposed to Miguel after the conclusion of Indian Premier League (IPL) season 13, held in the United Arab Emirates.
The Punjab Kings player wrote on his social media page: “Jesus has blessed me with many things in this life. None greater than having you in my life. Welcoming Mr and Mrs Pooran.”
He told AZPNews.com on Tuesday, the wedding was small with just the officiating pastor and the couple’s parents being in attendance in keeping with the public health gatherings of a limited number of persons.
Pooran said, “Getting married was one of the most important things I needed to do and this pandemic could not stop the wedding from taking place.”
He was supposed to be playing at the IPL but that was postponed due to the Covid-19 pamdemic. The IPL Phase 2 has been rescheduled to be held after the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) around September this year. Pooran plays for the Guyana Amazon Warriors in the CPL.
However, there is no honeymoon yet for the newlyweds as Pooran will be back out to work, playing with the West Indies in the upcoming series against South Africa, Pakistan and Australia starting later this month. These matches will be held in Grenada, St Lucia, Barbados and Guyana under Covid-19 protocols – without supporters in stadiums.
