New Traffic Rules at Tarouba

THERE are new traffic regulations at the Tarouba overpass effective from today (Monday).

The Ministry of Works and Transport by way of legal notice advised drivers of the new arrangements on May 6.

The notice entitled The Traffic Control (Tarouba Interchange) Order, 2022. The Order is made by Minister of Works and Transport Rohan Sinanan under section 65 of the Motor Vehicles and Road Traffic Act and is dated May 4, 2022.

According to the new Order, persons should be advised of the following:

  • A person driving a vehicle proceeding in an easterly direction along the Tarouba Link Road is not permitted to exit right from Tarouba Link Road onto Michael Rahael Boulevard.

  • A person driving a vehicle in an easterly direction along the Tarouba Link Road intending to access Michael Rahael Boulevard shall do so via the San Fernando By-Pass.

  • During the hours of 2 pm and 7 pm, Monday to Friday, the eastbound shoulder of the Tarouba Link Road shall be used as a lane.

  • A person driving a vehicle shall not park, stop or wait on the eastbound shoulder of the Tarouba Link Road between the hours of 2 pm and 7 pm Monday to Friday except in case of an emergency.

  • A person who contravenes this Order commits a traffic violation and is liable to a fine of $3,000.

The new traffic laws comes after the ministry conducted a trial exercise to alleviate traffic especially during peak hours.

New signage has been placed at the route and traffic lights no longer in use covered.
