REALITY TV show Naked and Afraid has begun filming at a Tobago estate from August 11 untill September 22.
The announcement was made by the Chief Secretary of the Tobago House of Assembly (THA), Farley Augustine on Thursday.
Speaking at Thursday’s post-Executive Council meeting, Augustine said the Executive Council has given the approval for the show to record on the island.
In addition, Augustine said parts of the forested area will not be available for recreational use, however, farmers in the area will be given an exemption to be allowed usual access to farms.
He said the American show aired on Discovery Channel at its peak got 3.26 million viewers.
Augustine added that each episode showcased the lives of two survivalists, who meet for the first time, naked and given the task of working together to survive together in the wilderness for 21 days.
He said the individuals were allowed to bring one helpful tool but they depended upon each other for food, water and shelter.
Augustine added, “The statistics showed it was quite popular among viewers 18 to 49, and it was ranked first among men.”
However, he expected that the show will provide “quite a bit of footage” of recognition of the island, and the best protected green space in the world.
Augustine said this project alone will bring forward quite an amount of foreign currency to Tobago as they will utilise local service providers.
