A HAMMER, a three inch length of metal pipe, a Sprite bottle containing a transparent liquid were amongst some items of evidential value found at the suspected murder/suicide scene of a couple in Central Trinidad on Monday.
Anna Marie Diaz, 47, a housewife and Amar Zoogie, of Paltoo Trace Todd’s Road, Caparo, a couple for the past 17 years died early Monday morning. They have one teenage son.
Police reports are that around 6.35am, officers responded to a report of a suspected murder/suicide. On arrival, officers met the informant who reported that around 6.30am while walking along Paltoo Trace, Todds Road, Caparo, he went into the bushes to relieve himself and he stumbled upon Zoogie’s body.
After making the discovery, he went to Zoogie’s apartment to notify his wife, but there was no answer. He then informed her brother and neighbour, Sebastian Diaz, of Zoogie’s death. Sebastian called out to his sister, got no response, then peered through a window and observed her lying on a bed motionless. He forced the door open, entered the apartment and on checking observed that his sister had a wound to the right temple.
District Medical Officer Dr Charles visited the scene, viewed the bodies, made the pronouncements and ordered the removal for post mortems at the Forensic Science Centre.
Further enquiries revealed that around 8.30pm on Sunday, Zoogie was seen pacing on the roadway in front of their apartment repeating loudly, “Ah fed up of this thing.”
Police stated that it was learnt that during the past two to three years, the couple experienced domestic challenges which resulted in Zoogie leaving the home. He however, returned home after one month. The Sprite bottle was found near Zoogie’s body.
