RIVER levels across Trinidad and Tobago remain below critical thresholds.

This is according to the Ministry of Rural Development and Local Government’s latest river level advisory issued on Wednesday.

As of 7.25 am on Wednesday, most monitored rivers are operating well within capacity. The Caroni River at Bamboo Settlement #3 is currently the highest at 54%, still within the yellow zone. Other locations such as El Carmen and Caroni Tumpuna have reached 41% and 48% respectively, both marked in green, signalling safe levels for now.

The majority of rivers, including South and North Oropouche, Guaracara, Cipero, and the Maraval River, remain within the blue zone (0-40%), indicating low risk. The lowest recorded capacity was the Couva River at just 6%, while the Caura River stands at 32%.

This update comes as the green-level adverse weather alert was officially discontinued on Tuesday, according to the Trinidad and Tobago Meteorological Service (TTMS).

Although conditions have improved, TTMS via a notice on Facebook, Tuesday, warns that impactful rainfall may still occur if atmospheric conditions become favourable.

TTMS said it will continue to monitor weather conditions across land, sea and air as the Wet and Hurricane seasons approach, and will advise the public in a timely manner about potential weather-related hazards.

It said the public, relevant agencies and ministries are being urged to adopt measures to reduce the potential impacts of the upcoming seasons.

The TTMS said daily forecasts are issued at 6am, 10am and 4pm and can be accessed along with monthly outlooks on its website at www.metoffice.gov.tt, its social media pages and the TT Met Office app.
