MEMBER of Parliament for Mayaro, Wilfred Nicholas Morris has been officially sworn in as Minister in the Office of the Prime Minister (OPM).
Morris was sworn in on Friday morning by Acting President Wade Mark at a ceremony at President’s House, Queens Park Savannah, Port of Spain.
Previously appointed to serve as Parliamentary Secretary in the Ministry of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs and in the Office of the Prime Minister, Morris stated his ministerial appointment to the Office of the Prime was to support OPM’s position as a “delivery ministry.”
Speaking to members of the media following his swearing in, he said, “The Office of the Prime Minister has developed into a robust delivery ministry. It’s not just the Office of the Prime Minister. There are a number of services within the Office of the Prime Minister, and the hands-on approach to governance undertaken by the Prime Minister necessitates or there is a need for a number of us to work with the Prime Minister to ensure that delivery. And I said, the reformation of a country continues.”
He denied his new appointment was in response to the backlash of Public Utilities Minister and Minister in the Office of the Prime Minister Barry Padarath taking the stage at the Hyatt All-Inclusive fete on Wednesday.
Senator Darrell Allahar is the other minister in the Office of the Prime Minister.
