THE Trinidad and Tobago Meteorological Service (TTMS) is monitoring the progress of an active tropical wave (TW) located approximately 1,930km east of the Lesser Antilles.
In an update on Thursday afternoon, meteorologist Saide Shakeer said, “TW is currently disorganised and does not yet have a closed circulation.”
TTMS said, “The chance of development into a Tropical Cyclone over the next 48 hours is medium (60%), and as environmental conditions become more favorable over the next five days, there is a high 70% chance of intensification.”
Officials said the system is moving westward near 32 km/hr and on its projected track it is forecast to move over portions of the Leeward Islands late Saturday night (August 14) or early Sunday morning (August 15).
“At this time, this system poses no direct threat to Trinidad, Tobago, Grenada and its Dependencies,” TTMS said.
The MET Office stated that it will continue to closely monitor these systems and will issue an update at 2pm tomorrow or earlier, if the situation warrants.
