Two Men on 11 Charges for Car Theft

TWO men have been slapped with 11 charges for car theft.

Richardson Julien, 37, of Princes Town and Andy Rampersad, 35, of Champ Fleurs, were jointly charged with seven counts of larceny motor vehicle and two counts of possession of stolen vehicle, when they appeared before Magistrate Rehana Ali, in the Chaguanas Third Magistrate’s Court, on Thursday.

They were remanded into custody. Police said the charges arose out of an intelligence-led exercise aimed at cracking down on the recent surge in motor vehicle theft in the Central Division.

Julien faced two additional charges for motor vehicle larceny.

The matter was adjourned to April 26, 2022, and transferred to the Chaguanas First Magistrate’s Court.

The men are also scheduled to appear in the Tunapuna Magistrates’ Court on April 27, 2022, the Couva Magistrates’ Court, on April 28, 2022, and the San Fernando Magistrates’ Court on April 25, 2022.

The accused were arrested during an anti-crime exercise, conducted in the Central and North-Central Divisions between March 25, 2022, and March 28, 2022.

The exercise was coordinated by Snr Supt Simon, Supts Pierre and Tewarie, ASPs Dipchand and Glodon and conducted by Insp Ablacksingh, acting Sergeants Nelson and Cielto and officers of the Central Division Anti-Gang Unit and the Criminal Investigations Department.

The exercise resulted in the recovery of nine motor vehicles, five of which were allegedly stolen from the Central Division and the arrest of the two men. Investigations are continuing into the larceny of the other four vehicles.

Charges against the two accused were laid by acting Cpl King, PCs Baksh, Marshall, Parks, Huggins, Gaskin and Hosein, all of Central Division.
