Memorial for Kazim Jr

KAZIM Ali Jr, one of the four divers who died in a sealine last month was again remembered on Tuesday at a memorial service.

Ali Jr is the only son of Kazim Ali Sr, the owner of LMCS Ltd, the company that was contracted to do work at the pipeline that claimed the divers’ lives.

Ali Jr’s memorial service took at Our Lady of Perpetual Help, Harris Promenade, San Fernando and was officiated by Fr Martin Sirju.

Opposition Leader Kamla Persad-Bissessar, Member of Parliament for Couva South Rudranath Indarsingh and Pointe-a-Pierre MP David Lee also attended and shared in the family’s grief.

On Saturday, Ali Jr was buried according to Muslim rites.

Divers Fyzal Kurban, Yusuf Henry and Rishi Nagassar also died in the incident at Paria Fuel Trading Company Ltd’s Berth Six off Point-a-Pierre while a fifth diver, Christopher Boodram, was rescued. 

The bodies of Kurban, Kazim and Henry were recovered on March 1 and Nagassar’s body was found on March 4.

On Monday, Kurban who was the lead diver was cremated at the Shore of Peace (Mosquito Creek) in  a boat-shaped casket.

On Wednesday, Henry’s funeral is expected to be held and a date for Nagassar’s funeral has not yet been set.

Candlelight vigils continue for the divers and an investigation has been launched into exactly what occurred.
