MAYARO MP Ruston Paray is calling for the introdcution of online government services so motorists can pay for their tickets.

In a release on Wednesday, Paray said, “At a time when the world is fast becoming digitised, motorists who are issued traffic tickets in South-East Trinidad are still being made to pay their fines at La Romaine or Arima.”

He said, “I would like to strongly urge the authorities to provide the required information and communications technology (ICT) so payments could be made at the Rio Claro and Mayaro franchises of the Trinidad and Tobago Postal Services.”

Affected motorists currently must make bill payments at the postal services corporate shops at either Duncan Village, La Romaine or Arima.

Apart from the distress of losing valuable time to honour the bills, they have to manoeuvre the horribly bad roads and spend additional sums on fuel, he said.

Paray said, “While it is acknowledged that the Government has been slow in digitising the public sector, surely efforts should be made to speed up essential services that impact the common person.

“The Government should seek to introduce such online services in the quickest possible time.

“As a national priority, the relevant support services should be improved and modified through the use of modern technology.”
