A 27-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the assault of a Licensing Officer during an incident in Curepe on Monday.
According to the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS), the incident occurred around 10.30 am along the Southern Main Road in the vicinity of the East Grove Housing Development within the St Joseph Police District.
Police said PC Ali and PC Harding, who are attached to the Las Lomas Police Post, were on mobile patrol when they responded to a report that a Licensing Officer had been assaulted.
Upon arriving at the scene, officers interviewed the Licensing Officer who reported that he had been attacked while carrying out his duties by the driver of a green-band maxi taxi.
The officer alleged that the suspect struck him twice in the face with his fist and later chased the Licensing Authority vehicle with a wheel spanner before leaving the area.
Police conducted enquiries and later that day proceeded to the Caroni Licensing Office where the suspect was identified and arrested.
The suspect, a 27-year-old man from Edinburgh 500, Chaguanas, was taken along with the Licensing Officer to the St Joseph Police Station where investigations are continuing.
