FARAI Hove Masaisai, who recently resigned from the People’s National Movement (PNM) general counci,l has been appointed a temporary senator.
He was appointed in place of Opposition Senator Melanie Roberts Radgman.
The announcement was made by Senate President Wade Mark during the special sitting of the Senate on Tuesday to debate the extension of the State of Emergency (SoE) for a further three months.
Mark read from the correspondence from President Christine Kangaloo announcing the appointment of Masaisai which takes effect from July 29 and continuing onward as Roberts Radgman is currently out of the country.
Masaisai led the People’s Champion’s slate in the recent PNM internal elections, which saw Opposition Leader Pennelope Beckles emerging as political leader of the PNM in which she was the sole candidate for that post.
He joins with his contenders in the internal election including Faris Al-Rawi, Foster Cummings who were part of Beckles slate.
Zola Phillips was also appointed again as a temporary independent senator holding on for Deoroop Teemul who unable to perform his senatorial duties due to illness.
Phillips first entered Parliament as a temporary independent senator during the 11th Republican Parliament.
