POLICE recovered three firearms with several rounds of ammunition during exercises conducted in various divisions on Friday.
Between 7 pm on Friday and 2 am on Saturday, Sgt Bethelmey, in company with PC Moonsar, WPC Gordon and PC Karmody, were on an anti-crime operation along with officers of the Inter-Agency Task Force, North Eastern Division Gang Intelligence Unit and K9 Unit, in the vicinity of Cipriani Avenue, Second Caladonia, Morvant.

The officers alighted their vehicles and WPC Gordon called out the man, who then pointed his weapon in their direction. PC Karmody, believing his life and that of his colleagues to be in imminent danger, and in keeping with the Use of Force Policy, discharged his firearm in the direction of the suspect. The man then dropped his firearm and fled the scene, making good his escape.
Upon closer inspection, the officers discovered the firearm to be an AK-47 Rifle fitted with a magazine containing 28 rounds of 7.62 ammunition. The firearm was rendered safe and seized. The scene was then processed by officers of the North Eastern Division Crime Scene Investigations Department.
