A 23-YEAR-OLD man who was charged recently for housebreaking and larceny was gunned down in Matura on Friday night.
Rico Lakhan was found by police officers gasping for breath after being shot at his La Guira Settlement home but was pronounced dead on arrival at the Sangre Grande Hospital.
Police reports are that around 10.30pm, officers from the Matura Police Station responded to a report from the Eastern Division Operation Centre and proceeded the squatting area.
On arrival the officers observed a man of mixed descent approximately, lying on his back next to a double seat couch, clad in a grey 3/4 jeans and bareback with what appeared to be several gunshot wounds about the body. He appeared to be gasping for breath.
Police conveyed him to the hospital and the pronouncement was made by Dr Jones at the Accident and Emergency Department.
Eastern Division Task force personnel responded and secured the crime scene.
Lakhan’s common-law wife told police that around 10.30pm, she was inside the home on a bed watching television while was on a nearby couch. The curtain to the eastern side entry door shifted and she observed a long object resembling a firearm and a man with a mask entered.
Several explosions were heard and Lakhan fell to the floor. The assailant then ran off.
Personnel from Homicide Bureau of Investigation Region 2 visited the scene along with CSI (Homicide).The scene was subsequently processed. Five spend 9mm casings ,six 5.56 casings, two deform projectiles, one normal projectile and other items of evidence were retrieved.
